Singapore’s beloved Live Turtle and Tortoise Museum has reopened in a bigger new home in Yishun, giving more than 600 turtles, tortoises and terrapins a more spacious place to call home. After several relocations over the years, the family-run sanctuary has built its latest space from the ground up, with its owners closely involved in everything from the construction to the design of the new enclosures.
The new sanctuary offers improved facilities and more comfortable habitats for its residents, while retaining the intimate, hands-on experience that has made the museum a favourite with families. Visitors can get up close with a range of species, including Box Turtles, Indian Star Tortoises, Pig-Nose Flying Turtles and Softshell Turtles, with opportunities to feed and interact with some of the animals.
Run by Connie Tan and her son Jedd, the museum’s latest chapter is as much about perseverance as it is about turtles. After being forced to leave its previous homes due to redevelopment, the sanctuary has returned with a purpose-built space that gives its long-time residents more room to thrive — and visitors another chance to meet them up close.
