Known for drawing long queues at its handmade pasta bar, Scarpetta is expanding with a new sister concept just a few doors away on Amoy Street. The new spot, Smash Street, opens at Amoy Street as a compact, casual burger bar focused on smash burgers, continuing the group’s approach of simple menus, small spaces, and no-reservations dining. Like Scarpetta, the outlet features a tiny open-kitchen setup with limited counter seating, while most customers are expected to order takeaway.
The concept centres on classic smash burgers, where ground beef patties are pressed onto a hot griddle to create thin patties with crisp, caramelised edges. The menu keeps things minimal, with a signature double-patty burger and a larger triple-patty option served in soft toasted buns, alongside straightforward sides such as fries, onion rings, and fried chicken bites. Milkshakes and soft drinks round out the offerings, reinforcing the idea of a fast, nostalgic burger joint rather than a full-service restaurant.
Both Scarpetta and Smash Street are part of the Open Concept Group, founded by Malaysian entrepreneur Aaron Yeunh, who developed the burger concept after experimenting with different meat blends and sauces during months of testing across regional burger spots. The goal, he says, was to create a dependable, everyday burger rather than a trend-driven one. With another bar concept planned for the second floor later on, the Amoy Street address is quickly shaping up to be a growing hub for the group’s casual dining ideas.
