In Buona Vista, Mohamed Al-Matin returns with a new chapter for his pastry brand, opening Le Matin Petit together with its dessert-led sister concept Après Gelato at Viva Vista. After closing the ION Orchard space, the chef shifts towards a smaller, more neighbourhood-driven format, trading the polished mall setting for a quieter, takeaway-first shop tucked in the southwest of Singapore. The new space is intentionally compact, with only a few standing tables and limited outdoor seating, keeping the focus on the food rather than the dine-in experience.
By day, Le Matin Petit centres on savoury bakes and pastries, introducing a new menu built around sourdough brioche rolls filled with bold, globally inspired flavours. The combinations reflect Al-Matin’s signature style — technical French foundations layered with influences from across Asia and beyond. Alongside the rolls are coffee, tea, and light sides, forming a casual daytime offering, while weekends bring back the pastries that built the brand’s following, released in limited batches for regulars who still remember the earlier Le Matin days.
Later in the day, the concept shifts as Après Gelato takes over, turning the focus towards desserts and small-batch gelato. The rotating selection explores flavours that move between familiar and unexpected, sometimes served simply in cones, other times as layered parfaits or paired with warm waffles. Together, the dual concept reflects a quieter but more flexible direction for the brand — one that moves from morning bakes to evening sweets, keeping the craftsmanship that made Le Matin known, but in a setting that feels more personal, more relaxed, and closer to the neighbourhood.
