A major refresh is underway for Sentosa as the government rolls out the first phase of the Greater Sentosa Master Plan, a long-term project that will transform Sentosa and nearby Pulau Brani into a larger, more connected leisure destination. The plan focuses on improving accessibility, upgrading attractions and introducing new lifestyle developments, reinforcing the island’s position as one of Singapore’s key tourism hubs.
One of the biggest changes will be the overhaul of transport links to and around the island. A new transport hub is planned to better connect Sentosa with Pulau Brani, while the current Sentosa Express monorail system will eventually be replaced with a more modern network designed to handle future visitor numbers. The surrounding area will also be opened up for new hospitality, dining and lifestyle projects, signalling a shift towards a more integrated destination rather than a standalone resort island.
The island itself will see physical upgrades as well. Beaches are set to be refreshed alongside new coastal protection features, while a new landmark known as the Imbiah Canopy will be built on Mount Imbiah as a gateway to nearby heritage trails and nature spots. Sustainability remains a key part of the redevelopment, with environmental studies and conservation guidelines built into the planning process to ensure future projects remain sensitive to the island’s natural landscape.
The transformation will be rolled out in phases over the coming years, with more details expected to be announced progressively. When completed, the Greater Sentosa plan is projected to significantly increase visitor numbers, positioning the island as an even bigger lifestyle and entertainment destination for both locals and international travellers.
