A major new chapter is unfolding at Gardens by the Bay with the upcoming development of Wetlands by the Bay, a five-hectare expansion of the existing Kingfisher Wetlands precinct. Set to open progressively from 2028, the project represents one of the Gardens’ most ambitious developments to date, bringing together nature, art, and immersive experiences within a newly expanded waterfront landscape.
At the heart of the project is a flagship museum by teamLab, marking the collective’s first-ever multi-sensory indoor and outdoor voyage experience. Spanning roughly 12,000 square metres, the museum will blend digital installations with living ecosystems. One of its most unique features will allow visitors to navigate custom pedal kayaks through indoor gallery spaces and out into real mangrove wetlands, creating a rare opportunity to interact with semi-aquatic environments in a completely new way.

Nature will remain the defining focus of the precinct. The expansion will see the wetlands grow significantly, introducing more than 600 mangroves and over 50,000 coastal plants—effectively tripling the current biodiversity within the area. The enriched habitat will support a thriving pollinator network and strengthen the Gardens’ role as a green sanctuary within Singapore’s city centre.
Visitors can also look forward to new spaces designed for exploration and community gathering. A scenic cantilevered canopy boardwalk will offer elevated views across the wetlands while improving connectivity between Gardens by the Bay MRT station and key attractions within Bay South Garden. Nearby, the expansive 3,500-square-metre Glade Lawn will provide a new venue for events, picnics, and outdoor activities surrounded by lush greenery.
The broader transformation will continue beyond the wetlands. A new 175-metre bridge linking Bay South Garden to Bay East Garden is expected to create a dramatic “walk on water” experience across the Marina Reservoir, while new dining spaces overlooking the waterfront will introduce more food options within the Gardens. Together, these additions position Wetlands by the Bay as a significant evolution of the Gardens’ vision—further reinforcing Singapore’s reputation as a “City in Nature.”
