Despite an unexpected closure at its former North Bridge Road premises, Hai Ge Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice by local rapper Sheikh Haikel and wife Anna Belle Francis is set to reopen at a new home along Bussorah Street in early July. The move comes after the couple were informed that they would have to vacate their previous unit when their lease came to an end, leaving them with little time to secure a new space. Rather than dwell on the setback, the husband-and-wife team moved quickly to rebuild, eventually securing two adjoining units along Bussorah Street, just a short walk from their former location. The new outlet will house both Hai Ge Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice and Hai Ge Ji Beef Noodles under one roof, offering a larger kitchen and expanded possibilities for future menu offerings.
The relocation marks another chapter in the couple’s rapidly growing halal F&B journey. Since launching Hai Ge Ji Hainanese Chicken Rice in 2024, the brand has expanded to include Hai Ge Ji Beef Noodles, a halal adaptation of the popular Hwa Heng Beef Noodle concept, with outlets in Yishun and Plaza Singapura. While juggling the relocation, the couple has also been operating a temporary pop-up at One-North in collaboration with IncuBaker, serving a selection of signature dishes while renovations at the new premises are underway. Looking ahead, diners can also expect new menu items and collaborations with heritage brands as the business continues to evolve.
Beyond the business expansion, Sheikh and Francis remain committed to celebrating local flavours and community through their food. Plans for the new Bussorah Street space include late-night outdoor seating on weekends, creating a casual supper destination within Kampong Glam. For Sheikh, the move represents more than just a change of address. The couple hopes to bring a stronger sense of Singaporean identity back to the neighbourhood, while continuing to serve meaningful dishes that resonate with both longtime supporters and new customers alike.
