A Study in Red: The Official Sherlock Experience has arrived in Bugis, bringing the world’s first officially licensed Sherlock Holmes experience to Singapore. Created by homegrown gaming studio Hidden, the immersive game turns Bugis Town into a real-life detective story, with teams of up to five players recruited to solve a mysterious murder inspired by A Study in Scarlet, the 1887 story that introduced Sherlock Holmes.
Players navigate 16 waypoints around Bugis, using their phones to uncover clues through augmented-reality crime scenes, 360-degree virtual environments, CCTV intel and calls from characters inspired by the Sherlock Holmes canon. The fictional case is woven into the neighbourhood itself, incorporating real historical details and lesser-known stories from Bugis, alongside playful references for Holmes fans — from 221B Constants to a Singaporean take on Inspector Lestrade.
Taking around 90 minutes to complete, the experience moves between physical sets and digital environments, including a staged crime scene at Bugis Street and an immersive VR-style investigation at Bugis+. Fully sheltered and largely air-conditioned, A Study in Red offers a different way to explore one of Singapore’s most familiar neighbourhoods — with a murder mystery waiting around every corner.
