Pulau Ubin will have 90 per cent of their main village electricity needs by using solar power. Additional firefighting facilities, such as fire hydrants and hose reels will also be installed to strengthen the island’s fire management response. Five senior citizens who are living alone have personal alert buttons installed at their houses. With a push of the button, they will be able to call for immediate assistance when they face emergencies at home.
At the annual Ubin Day on 25 June, the National Parks Board (NParks) said that these amenities will help to address the needs of the community and raise the quality of life for the residents.
