Singapore’s arts scene is set to gain a new 1,000-seat performing arts theatre in Tanglin, expected to be completed by 2030. The purpose-built proscenium theatre will form part of a new mixed-use development on the former Tanglin Shopping Centre site, alongside retail, office, wellness and cultural spaces as well as a contemporary art museum.
The theatre is being funded and developed by Singapore-based Pacific Eagle Real Estate, with support from the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth and the National Arts Council. Its 1,000-seat capacity will place it between existing venues such as Victoria Theatre and the Esplanade, allowing it to accommodate larger local and international productions across theatre, musicals, dance and music.
Beyond performances, the new venue is intended to create more opportunities for Singapore’s arts community, including roles in technical theatre, arts management and other behind-the-scenes disciplines. The theatre will be operated by an appointed operator, with local arts groups able to bid independently or partner with international companies, while international applicants will be required to work with a local arts partner.

The development will also include a contemporary art museum managed by the Tanoto Art Foundation, adding another cultural draw to the Tanglin precinct. Pacific Eagle Real Estate will waive the theatre’s base rent for its entire 20-year tenancy, supporting the venue’s long-term role within Singapore’s performing arts landscape.
The new theatre is part of a broader effort to expand arts spaces of different sizes across Singapore, giving audiences greater access to both local and international productions. Its location in Tanglin also places it within a well-established lifestyle district, potentially creating a new intersection between the arts, retail, dining and wellness.
