Tanjong Pagar welcomes a fresh addition to its nightlife scene with the opening of Braveheart Sake, Singapore’s first sake-cocktail bar dedicated to pushing the boundaries of Japan’s beloved rice spirit. Founded by sake enthusiasts James Li and Ong Jun Quan, the intimate bar combines a deep respect for traditional sake with an adventurous approach to mixology, creating a space where both seasoned aficionados and curious newcomers can discover sake in an entirely new light.
At the heart of the experience are the sake discovery flights (from $38), designed to introduce guests to the diverse flavour profiles of the spirit. Led by co-founder and WSET Level 3-certified sake sommelier JQ, these guided tastings invite guests to explore different expressions while learning about tasting notes, brewing styles and the nuances that make each pour unique. For those who prefer a more flexible experience, the menu also offers sake by the carafe, allowing diners to sample a variety without committing to a full bottle.
Beyond traditional pours, Braveheart Sake stands out for its inventive sake-based cocktail programme. Crafted by owner-mixologist James Li, the signature drinks reinterpret familiar spirits and flavours through the lens of sake. Highlights include cocktails inspired by lager and rose, alongside indulgent creations such as the Hedonic ($22), a dessert-style cocktail that balances richness with refreshing acidity. By day, the venue also serves artisanal pour-over coffee and tea, transforming the space into an all-day destination where curiosity, conversation and flavour take centre stage.
