One of Singapore’s most beloved pastry brands is making a highly anticipated return. Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tart, which closed in 2024 after a 26-year run, is set to reopen at Aperia Mall in mid-June 2026 with a fresh new concept that honours its heritage while introducing a new generation’s perspective. Long remembered for its iconic Portuguese egg tarts and loyal following, the brand enters a new chapter under the stewardship of siblings Zac Ong and Vernice Ong, who grew up enjoying the bakery’s signature creations.
Rather than recreating the original takeaway-only format, the revived Madeleine’s has been reimagined as a Macau-inspired cha chaan teng, blending nostalgic flavours with a contemporary café experience. Before taking over the reins, the siblings trained directly under the bakery’s original founders to learn the recipes and techniques that made Madeleine’s a household name. At the heart of the menu remains the famous Portuguese egg tart, made fresh daily, alongside new interpretations such as a gula melaka version that introduces a distinctly local twist to the classic favourite.
The expanded menu goes beyond pastries, showcasing a range of Macau-inspired comfort dishes and modern café offerings. Diners can look forward to items such as bolo buns, pork chop buns, crab congee, minchee rice, and seasonal specials that reflect the café’s East-meets-West influences. By combining the nostalgia of a cherished local brand with a broader dining experience, Madeleine’s return promises to introduce its legacy to a new audience while giving longtime fans a reason to revisit one of Singapore’s most fondly remembered bakery names.
