Indonesian comfort food favourite Warung Leko has opened its first Singapore outlet in Bugis, bringing its well-known smashed ribs to the local dining scene. The brand, which started in Surabaya, Indonesia in 2006, has grown to dozens of outlets across Indonesia, and is best known for its signature iga penyet — tender beef ribs served with fiery sambal and classic side dishes. With the new opening, fans no longer need to travel to Indonesia to get a taste of the cult favourite.
The menu centres on hearty, traditional Indonesian dishes, with highlights including iga penyet served with tempeh, tahu goreng and house-made sambal, as well as other staples such as bakso, fried oxtail and sup buntut. The flavours lean bold and comforting, with slow-cooked meats, rich broths and punchy chilli pastes forming the backbone of the kitchen. The sambal, in particular, is a standout, adding a strong, balanced heat that ties the dishes together.
Muslim-friendly and casual in style, the Bugis outlet brings the same homely recipes that made the brand popular back in Indonesia. With its focus on familiar flavours and generous portions, Warung Leko adds another solid option to the neighbourhood’s growing list of halal dining spots, especially for those craving something beyond the usual ayam penyet.
