Singapore’s Circle Line is finally closing the loop. The long-awaited sixth and final stage of the line will officially open on July 12, introducing three new stations – Keppel MRT Station, Cantonment MRT Station, and Prince Edward Road MRT Station – connecting HarbourFront directly to Marina Bay without the need for additional transfers. Announced by Acting Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow, the 4km extension completes the Circle Line after years of delays brought on by the pandemic and tunnel strengthening works. Before the official launch, commuters can preview and ride the new stretch for free on July 4.
With the completion of Stage 6, the Circle Line will span 39km across 33 stations, offering significantly shorter travel times between western Singapore and the city centre. Journeys that previously required multiple line changes – such as from Telok Blangah to Marina Bay – will now become far more seamless. Beyond connectivity, each station has also been thoughtfully designed to reflect the character of its surroundings. Keppel station references HarbourFront’s iconic cable cars through its vent shaft design, while Cantonment station incorporates architectural details inspired by the historic Tanjong Pagar Railway Station above it. Meanwhile, Prince Edward Road station draws from Singapore’s maritime past with interiors influenced by old waterfront communities.
Ahead of the opening, the Circle Line has also introduced new third-generation Alstom Metropolis trains, featuring refreshed interiors, updated route maps and upgraded monitoring systems. The new stations are expected to support future developments across the Greater Southern Waterfront, while improving access to business hubs and residential districts around the city fringe. In a fitting preview of the area’s evolving future, Cantonment station recently transformed its platform into a fashion runway for a graduate showcase by LASALLE College of the Arts – offering a first glimpse into how these stations may become more than just transit points in the years ahead.
