A futuristic reading experience has landed in the East with the opening of Singapore’s new sci-fi pop-up library at Parkway Parade. Launched by the National Library Board, the fully self-service concept transforms a section of the mall into a neon-lit literary escape, complete with chrome finishes, glowing green accents, and close to 4,000 sci-fi titles, graphic novels, and comics for all ages. From space operas and cyberpunk thrillers to dystopian classics and family-friendly adventures, the collection invites visitors to explore the genre in an immersive new setting.
Beyond the shelves, the pop-up introduces the first-ever exhibition housed within an NLB library concept. Original paintings used for iconic sci-fi book covers sit alongside themed artworks, figurines, and displays celebrating the evolution of sci-fi storytelling. There is also a distinctly local angle woven into the experience, spotlighting Singapore’s sci-fi scene from the 1970s through the 1990s, including cult comics and works by homegrown writers. Interactive features such as AI-powered storytelling installations and digital eReads stations further reinforce the library’s futuristic atmosphere.
The sci-fi destination forms part of a broader effort by the National Library Board to bring reading into everyday community spaces. Alongside the Parkway Parade activation, new Sit-n-Read Nodes are also appearing across Singapore, expanding access to curated book collections in lifestyle and neighbourhood hubs. Running through April 2027, the Parkway Parade pop-up offers readers a fresh way to discover stories — one that feels equal parts library, exhibition, and retro-futuristic playground.
