A new training facility has been launched at the Institute of Technical Education College Central campus, marking a significant step forward in how security professionals are trained in Singapore. Known as the Security Operations Training Command (SOTC), the purpose-built space is designed to simulate real-world security environments, giving trainees a more immersive and practical learning experience from day one. Developed in partnership with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority, the facility introduces a level of operational realism not previously available in higher education settings.
Within the SOTC, trainees move through a series of dedicated zones that mirror actual security workflows, from automated clearance gates and vehicular search areas to command centres equipped with live dashboards and surveillance systems. A standout feature is the ICA training zone, where students are exposed to frontline border operations through tools like X-ray scanners and interactive learning stations. Complementing this is a mixed reality and AI environment that places trainees in high-pressure scenarios, such as crowd control and incident response, helping to build critical thinking, situational awareness, and decision-making skills.
This new facility reflects a broader shift towards experiential learning, bridging the gap between classroom theory and on-the-ground execution. Supporting programmes such as the Work-Study Diploma in Security Operations benefit directly from this hands-on approach, preparing trainees to meet the evolving demands of Singapore’s security landscape. With industry collaboration and advanced simulation at its core, the SOTC positions itself as a forward-looking training ground for the next generation of security professionals.
