Fortune Centre continues to fly under the radar as one of Singapore’s most quietly stacked food spots, home to gems like Yuen Kee Dumpling and Bao Er Cafe. Its latest addition, Onigiri GON, brings a slice of Japan to the mix — a small, cosy eatery run by a Fukuoka native, tucked on the first floor with just about 15 seats inside and a few more outside.
The focus here is simple: freshly made onigiri, crafted daily with around 20 flavours to choose from. Classic options like ume, konbu, and okaka sit alongside heartier picks such as mentaiko mayo, niku soboro (soy-glazed minced meat), and spicy fried chicken. At the top end, expect generously filled variations like ebi tempura and spicy salmon — all neatly wrapped and made to order.
If you’re coming by for a proper meal, the onigiri set is the way to go, pairing your choice of two rice balls with miso soup and pickles. There’s also room to customise with extra fillings for a small top-up. With its limited seating and steady interest, it’s best visited during off-peak hours — a quick, comforting stop just a short walk from Bencoolen MRT.
