A new family-friendly winter concept is landing in the city this March, and it’s designed with first-timers firmly in mind. Ice Penguin is set to open at Clarke Quay Central, positioning itself as a dedicated skating and training space where beginners of all ages can ease into ice sports without the pressure of a full-scale rink. Spanning close to 5,000 square feet, the venue focuses on confidence-building in a controlled, winter-inspired environment that feels welcoming rather than intimidating.
At the heart of Ice Penguin is a 1,000-square-foot synthetic ice rink — a more forgiving surface that mimics the glide of real ice while offering extra reassurance for those taking their first steps. The space is designed around a “foundations first” approach, making it suitable for young children, teens and adults who are new to skating. Beyond the rink, Ice Penguin expands into a broader winter sports playground, featuring ski and snowboard simulators for balance training, as well as VR-assisted tools that help users improve coordination and spatial awareness.
More than just free play, Ice Penguin is shaping itself as a structured learning hub. Coaching programmes will be available on both weekdays and weekends, covering beginner ice skating, ice hockey training and figure skating fundamentals. Whether it’s a child learning to balance for the first time or a teen looking to progress into organised training, the centre aims to grow skills steadily in a supportive setting. With its focus on accessibility, progression and play, Ice Penguin introduces a fresh indoor activity option for families looking to try something different — no heavy jackets or freezing temperatures required.
