A new independent cinema, Filmhouse, is set to open at Golden Mile Tower, taking over the former home of The Projector at Beach Road. Following the unexpected closure of the beloved indie cinema in August 2025, several members of its core team have reunited under a new banner, bringing familiar energy back to the three-screen space. The halls retain their original names — the Green Room, Redrum, and the Blue Room — as a quiet nod to the venue’s past, with renovations currently under way.
Led by former Projector general manager Sharon Tan, Filmhouse balances renewal with continuity. The Green Room will be upgraded with a 4K projector, while the remaining halls maintain their original setups. Select murals have also been preserved, maintaining the character that regulars remember fondly. While food and beverage offerings are still being finalised, the cinema will open with a snack bar serving classic movie fare, with a soft opening expected in late January or early February.
Programming remains at the heart of Filmhouse’s vision, with a curated mix of new releases, foreign-language films, art-house titles, and retrospectives. Early screenings are set to include acclaimed titles such as Sentimental Value, Hamnet, and Rental Family. With much of The Projector’s former programming and operations team returning, Filmhouse positions itself not just as a cinema, but as a familiar home for film lovers — continuing the spirit of community that once defined the space.
