Singapore’s well-loved contemporary Nanyang coffee chain Toast Box 土司工坊 is launching a distinctive concept store – Toast Box Coffee House 土司工坊 咖啡店, in the heart of the hip and heritage Tiong Bahru estate at 58 Seng Poh Road.
Taking over the former premises of stalwart local hero eatery Old Tiong Bahru Bak Kut Teh, Toast Box Coffee House is conceptualised as a dining destination that promises a familiar yet unforgettable experience – one that pays homage to the charismatic kopitiam that remains a quintessential icon of Singapore’s cultural landscape, as well as the distinctive neighbourhood which is celebrated for its harmonious blend of tradition and modernity.
Here, amid a nostalgic setting with curated displays and vintage memorabilia, customers can soak up the enduring charm of old school coffee shops while tucking into the diverse extended menu of Nanyang specialties and British-influenced cuisine the likes of Old School Hainanese Pork Chop, Claypot Hokkien Prawn Mee and Claypot Laksa. The veritable First Street Teochew Fish Soup with humble origins at Upper Serangoon Road dating back to 1988, is also setting up its third outlet within the store.
A first for the brand, Toast Box Coffee House also houses a coffee bean retail counter where customers can choose from a range of six types of in-house roasted coffee beans; including two Nanyang kopi blends and single origin options, among curated gift sets and other merchandise.
Jonathan Quek, Managing Director for Bakery Division elaborates, “As we celebrate our 18th anniversary this year, we want to continue in our mission to preserve the Nanyang kopi tradition for generations to come. It is therefore important for us to conserve this piece of local heritage, given the significance of its location. We purposefully created a one-of-a-kind concept store where customers can take a walk down memory lane and immerse themselves in a classic coffee shop experience that harks back to yesteryear”.
