Bukit Batok Public Library has reopened with a major refresh, now spanning three floors at West Mall and nearly doubling in size. The upgraded space offers expanded seating and a wider range of zones for reading, discovery, and quiet retreat—positioning itself as more than just a traditional library within a busy mall setting.
A defining feature of the new space is its immersive sound experience, a first for libraries in Singapore. The SingLand Soundscape, created by local sound artist Mervin Wong, layers everyday sounds of Bukit Batok in ambisonic 3D audio, flowing seamlessly across levels. Paired with curated audio-visual materials from the National Library Board archives, the environment brings local stories and memories into a multi-sensory format that enhances the act of reading.
The library also introduces interactive features designed for modern discovery. Digital tools like Scan-n-Discover and Infinite Shelves extend physical browsing into a hybrid experience, connecting visitors to eBooks, audiobooks, and curated recommendations through QR integration and the NLB Mobile App. With extended hours and a mix of physical and digital touchpoints, the refreshed Bukit Batok Library reflects a shift towards more engaging, accessible, and future-ready public spaces.
