Newly opened at UE Square, WHUCHU reimagines ssam (쌈), one of Korea’s most cherished dining traditions, into a refined dining experience rooted in freshness, fermentation, and craftsmanship.
Farm-to-table vegetables sourced from Korea, authentic Korean jeotgal (fermented salted seafood), and 100% certified Jeju pork aged in a Himalayan salt aging room form the foundation of the concept.
By day, WHUCHU serves a wellness-led ssambap experience. By night, it transforms into a premium Korean BBQ destination. The experience extends to the WHUCHU Beer Garden, a relaxed outdoor gathering space where diners come together over food, drinks, games, and meaningful moments.

A Brand Rooted in Korean Food Culture
At WHUCHU, ssam (쌈) is not a menu format, it is the philosophy that shapes every decision.
Ssambap 쌈밥 is a meal that traces its roots to Korean fieldworkers who would pause their day to wrap whatever they had on hand into a single, satisfying bite. A leaf, a piece of meat, a smear of fermented sauce, and a scoop of rice were all you needed.
More than a way of eating, ssam brings together grain, protein, vegetables, fermentation, freshness, and nourishment in one balanced bite. At WHUCHU, this tradition is reinterpreted with clarity and refinement, offering a contemporary Korean dining experience that feels both grounded and inviting.
Highlight Elements
What Makes WHUCHU Different Is Not The Format, It Is The Sourcing
Himalayan Salt Aging Room
At the heart of WHUCHU is its cave-inspired Himalayan salt aging room, one of the first of its kind within a Korean restaurant in Singapore. More than a back-of-house process, it’s integrated into the dining journey, allowing guests to witness the craft of aging in real time. This creates transparency, technique, and culinary craftsmanship that sets WHUCHU apart.
Jeotgal: The Essence of Korean Umami
Authentic Korean jeotgal, or salted fermented seafood, plays a central role in shaping WHUCHU’s flavour identity, not as a minor accompaniment. For centuries, Koreans have used jeotgal as a small-dose flavor amplifier: a spoonful adds umami depth without overwhelming. Eaten in ssam wraps alongside greens, rice, and meat. WHUCHU’s selection includes Salted Pollock Roe, Seasoned Sea Squirt, Spicy Fermented Oysters, and Spicy Salted Squid, each offering distinct flavour profiles from rich and silky to briny and deeply savoury.
Fresh Vegetables: Wrapping Nature, Tasting Health
Wrap vegetables flown in from Korea define WHUCHU’s wellness-led identity. The selection includes Fresh Garlic Leaves, Angelica, Red Lettuce, Perilla Leaves, and Lettuce, each contributing to a vibrant, nourishing, interactive meal. The brand line “Wrapping Nature, Tasting Health” positions these greens as central to WHUCHU’s ssam-bap identity.
Aged Jeju Pork
100% certified natural Jeju pork, sourced directly from Korea and aged in-house through a dual wet-and-dry process. Wet aging first for tenderness, then dry aging to concentrate flavour and develop deeper, more complex finish.
Dining in WHUCHU: The Dual Dining Experience
Built around two pillars of Korean food culture, ssam and BBQ, WHUCHU presents a dual dining identity that transforms from day to night.

The Interior: Earth, Warmth, and Korean Cultural Depth
WHUCHU’s interior is anchored in Hwangto (황토), the ochre-toned yellow earth deeply rooted in Korean art and culture.
Warm wood surfaces, soft ambient lighting, and restrained textures evoke an honest Korean butcher’s kitchen, unpretentious, grounded, and built for meals that don’t rely on spectacle. The integrated Himalayan salt aging room extends this narrative, physically connecting the space to WHUCHU’s philosophy of craftsmanship and authenticity.
Designed with flexibility in mind, the space accommodates intimate tables for two, group seating for six, and private arrangements for ten or more, equally suited for working lunches, quiet dinners, or complete Korean dining experiences.
