Vernacular Coffee, established by F&B group The Grange Collective in 2023, has opened its street-front flagship outlet at Varel Singapore, a Tribute Portfolio hotel, introducing an all-day destination that transitions from a coffee-led café by day into a relaxed beer garden by night. Located in Selegie-Mount Sophia, the café sits within Singapore’s latest breakout heritage neighbourhood, rich with arts, culture, and creative communities.
Floor-to-ceiling glass on all sides, lush greenery and pet-friendly alfresco seating create an inviting neighbourhood café that draws travellers, residents, and coffee lovers throughout the day.
At the heart of Vernacular Coffee is a commitment to exceptional coffee and responsible sourcing. The café roasts a diverse selection of single-origin beans in-house, producing espresso and pour-over brews with remarkable aromatic depth. The team works directly with traceable farms committed to ethical growing practices, roasting each bean to express the terroir of its origin rather than masking it. Every cup reflects both the landscape it comes from and the craftsmanship of the farmers behind it.
Vernacular Coffee’s beverage programme is complemented by specialty teas from teahouse TWG, bean- to-bar drinking chocolate by local maker Fossa Chocolate, and Selegie-exclusive seasonal creations such as Pineapple Milk with Seasonal Expresso, Strawberry Sancha Iced Tea, and Bergamot & Chamomile Iced Tea.
Whether for a leisurely neighbourhood brunch, an afternoon coffee break or a relaxed evening meal, the all-day menu caters to every occasion. Guests can start with Vernacular’s Breakfast, savour inventive Danish creations such as the “Skagen” Shrimp Salad Danish and Pulled Pork, Gherkin & Mustard Danish, enjoy crowd favourites like Velvety Mentaiko pasta and Fish & Chips, and finish on a sweet note with Homemade Kaya Croast.
“We wanted Vernacular Coffee to become the neighbourhood’s living room – a place where people drop in for their morning coffee, linger over brunch, bring along their dogs, meet friends after work, and stay into the evening. Whether you are a traveller discovering Selegie or a local who calls the neighbourhood home, everyone should feel welcome,” said Vinson Keefe, owner of The Grange Collective.
For those exploring Selegie and Mount Sophia, en route between Rochor and Little India, or taking a daily walk with their best paw friend, the café’s open layout, with both air-conditioned interiors and alfresco seating, welcomes guests to pause and unwind. By evening, the space seamlessly segues into a cosy, laid-back hangout for happy-hour drinks and after-hours meet-ups.

A Social Destination for the Community
With Vernacular Coffee and Vernacular After Dark, Varel Singapore aims to be the catalyst of the evolving lifestyle landscape of Selegie. The space’s dual identity – bright and expressive by day, warm and communal by night – positions it as a versatile destination for morning meetings, afternoon catch-ups, and evening gatherings.
The Selegie outlet brings together Vernacular Coffee’s widest coffee programme, expanded all-day menu and first evening concept under one roof.
With its seamless transition from coffee-led café by day to relaxed beer garden by night, Vernacular Coffee reflects the evolving character of Selegie itself – creative, welcoming and increasingly one of Singapore’s most exciting neighbourhoods to eat, drink and linger.
Currently, coffee lovers can also enjoy Vernacular Coffee at its Guillemard Road Branch (KFF Badminton Arena), as well as at a designated coffee stand at Capital Tower.
