The Mad Sailors has officially returned to Haji Lane after a four-year hiatus, reopening in its original location with a refreshed concept centred around halal British fish and chips. Helmed by The Black Hole Group — the team behind popular concepts such as Tipo Pasta Bar and Éla — the revived eatery leans fully into comforting British seaside classics while retaining the playful personality and nostalgic charm that first made it a favourite along the eclectic Haji Lane stretch.
The new menu keeps things focused, spotlighting freshly fried fish and chips with a choice of premium fish varieties paired with hand-cut triple-fried chips and house-made tartar sauce. Diners can also expect comforting sides such as clam chowder and thick-cut onion rings, alongside a few quirky additions that give the concept its signature personality. One standout is the non-alcoholic Butter Beer-inspired drink — a butterscotch soda topped with caramel cold foam — while indulgent desserts include deep-fried banana Mars bars finished with butterscotch cream.
With its retro marine-diner aesthetic and more streamlined menu, The Mad Sailors’ return feels both familiar and refreshed. The reopening adds another lively halal dining option to Haji Lane’s ever-evolving food scene, blending comfort food, playful nostalgia, and casual dining into one welcoming space.
