Ki-setsu Group, the group behind the omakase restaurant Sushi Masa, is opening Soup Curry by Ki-setsu, Singapore’s first and only traditional Hokkaido soup curry restaurant. The restaurant will hold a soft launch from 7 September 2026, ahead of its official opening on 8 October 2026.
The recipes have been personally developed by Chef Masa, who has always loved Hokkaido soup curry and noticed that Singapore has never had an authentic version of it. Determined to change that, he set out to bring the dish here himself, translating a style of cooking rarely seen outside Hokkaido into a menu built specifically for Singapore diners.
Hokkaido soup curry is quite different from the thicker, roux based Japanese curry most diners in Singapore are familiar with. It is a clear, spiced broth built around vegetables, served with rice on the side rather than poured over it, making it eat more like a bowl of comforting soup than a heavy curry dish. The flash fried vegetables are a highlight of the dish, alongside the chicken, offering a lighter and more textured take on a familiar comfort food category.
“I have always loved Hokkaido soup curry, as it always felt like home to me. It is lighter, it is comforting, and it is completely different from the Japanese curry most people here know. When I moved to Singapore, I was surprised no one was serving it here, so I wanted to share that with Singapore myself,” – Chef Masa from Sushi Masa by Ki-setsu.
