A hidden new dining destination has arrived along River Valley Road with the opening of Behind Clay, an intimate Asian fusion dining lounge tucked behind IL Clay’s wood-fired oven. Concealed within the popular Neapolitan pizzeria, the 52-seat space reveals an entirely different atmosphere, trading pizza counters for moody burgundy interiors, craft cocktails and leisurely dinners designed for lingering conversations.
The new concept brings together two distinct culinary perspectives under one roof. Chef Ciro Sorrentino, whose Margherí in Vietnam is recognised among Asia-Pacific’s top pizzerias, joins forces with Chef Yip, whose contemporary Chinese cooking has been shaped by more than two decades across Asia. The menu reflects this East-meets-West collaboration through inventive sharing plates and wood-fired creations, from foie gras pâté pizza with tamarind sauce, pineapple purée and pistachio, to butternut chicken curry pizza, alongside dishes such as spicy shrimp carpaccio and mala shaker pork belly. Behind the bar, mixologist Voon complements the menu with the Duetti Collection, a cocktail programme crafted to pair with the lounge’s signature dishes.
Designed as a destination for unhurried evenings, Behind Clay offers a fresh take on contemporary dining where Italian craftsmanship and modern Chinese flavours meet in one intimate setting. Hidden behind a familiar façade, the new lounge invites diners to discover an unexpected culinary experience beyond the pizzeria.
