A new addition to Telok Ayer’s cocktail scene is proving that great drinks do not have to come with sky-high CBD prices. Shards, the latest concept by White Shades, has opened on the third floor of its heritage shophouse on Boon Tat Street, offering a relaxed alternative to the city’s more polished cocktail bars. Designed to feel more like a welcoming living room than a traditional drinking establishment, the intimate space combines cosy interiors, conversational energy, and thoughtfully crafted cocktails in a setting that encourages guests to linger.
Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, where broken ceramics are repaired with gold lacquer, Shards embraces themes of renewal and reinvention. The philosophy extends throughout the venue, from repurposed glassware crafted from the former Kaku highball bar to hand-finished cocktail menus that reflect a deliberately personal touch. The drinks programme centres around a concise menu of signature cocktails that explore tea, savoury flavours, and unexpected ingredients, with creations ranging from smoky tequila-based serves to whisky-forward highballs and tea-infused concoctions. Guests can also enjoy bespoke cocktails tailored to their individual preferences.
Complementing the drinks is a selection of comfort-focused bar bites and hearty dishes, while an adjoining private lounge offers a casual karaoke experience for celebrations and group gatherings. Following White Shades’ transformation into a more streamlined multi-concept destination alongside rooftop bar Lumina, Shards brings a refreshing sense of simplicity to Singapore’s cocktail landscape. With approachable pricing, inventive drinks, and a laid-back atmosphere, it is well-positioned to become a favourite spot for after-work catch-ups and leisurely evenings in the city.
