In Singapore’s land-scarce urban landscape, ActiveSG Courts @ Farrer Park introduces a creative new approach to community sports facilities. Located within sections of the Little India Bus Terminal, the newly opened venue transforms underused transport space into eight dedicated pickleball courts. Developed by Sport Singapore with support from the Land Transport Authority, the project reflects how existing infrastructure can be reimagined to meet the growing demand for recreational sports in the city.
The courts form part of the wider Sports Facilities Master Plan, an initiative aimed at bringing accessible sporting spaces within a short walk of most homes by 2030. As interest in pickleball continues to grow rapidly across Singapore, the new facility adds to a network of courts available through ActiveSG centres and dual-use venues islandwide. With bookings managed through the MyActiveSG+ platform, the courts are open to the public on most days of the week, while the site continues to operate as a functioning bus terminal on Sundays — a practical example of shared, dual-purpose urban space.
Beyond providing new places to play, the facility is also designed to bring people together. Positioned between residential, commercial, and transient areas, the courts create a new social hub for the neighbourhood, where residents, visitors, and sports enthusiasts can meet through a fast-growing, highly social sport. Community events and friendly competitions have already begun to take place here, reinforcing the idea that thoughtful urban planning can turn everyday spaces into opportunities for activity, connection, and community life.
