Singapore’s first new hotel of 2026 has officially opened, and culture lovers will want to take note. Set in the creative Bras Basah–Bugis district, Hotel Waterloo Singapore – Handwritten Collection is a newly built boutique stay under the Accor group, joining a portfolio that includes Raffles Sentosa, Mondrian Singapore Duxton, and Pullman Singapore. The hotel introduces a contemporary tropical aesthetic that leans understated rather than resort-like, offering a refined city escape rooted in calm, design-forward comfort.
Interiors are dressed in deep, muted greens with plants woven throughout the space, while guestrooms feature botanical wallpaper that evokes a tranquil, forest-like retreat. Guests can expect thoughtful modern comforts, including a lap pool, gym, minibar with Nespresso machine, and smart room technology such as voice-controlled lighting and air-conditioning, alongside an AI-powered concierge. Dining is handled in-house at Antler & Ember, where Western and Asian fusion dishes are served alongside generous buffet breakfasts — with complimentary dining for children under 12.
Beyond the hotel, the surrounding neighbourhood invites exploration. Guests can embark on Hotel Waterloo’s curated Gem and Jewellery Heritage Trail, a self-guided walk that uncovers nearby museums, cultural landmarks, and traditional craft stores. Even without the trail, the area rewards curiosity, with creative spaces, independent studios, and coffee spots adding to its appeal. Positioned at the intersection of heritage and modern city life, Hotel Waterloo offers a stay that feels both connected and quietly restorative — where Singapore’s cultural past meets its evolving creative pulse.
