Beloved homegrown bakery Dona Manis has opened its very first dine-in café in the East, marking a long-awaited milestone for the cult-favourite pastry brand. Located at 95 East Coast Road, the new space finally lets fans enjoy its legendary bakes hot and fresh on the spot — no takeaway box required. Pair that with coffee from local roaster PPP Coffee, and this feels very much like a victory lap for longtime loyalists (and a gentle nudge for first-timers).
Founded in 1992, Dona Manis has spent over three decades quietly winning hearts with its nostalgic, handmade pastries, most famously its iconic banana pie. Crafted daily in small batches, the pie features a flaky golden crust filled with caramelised bananas and topped with toasted almonds — made without preservatives and using premium ingredients. Long before Instagram-era bakeries, Dona Manis built its following through consistency, comfort, and a deep respect for tradition, becoming a cherished fixture at Katong Shopping Centre.
The new café expands beyond the original banana pie, offering a broader menu that includes creamy chicken pies, banana cake, pandan chiffon, lemon curd tarts, chocolate walnut cookies, rum balls, and classic banana pudding. Seating is limited, with just a handful of indoor and outdoor tables, making early visits recommended. Thoughtful and unfussy, the space reflects Dona Manis’ enduring appeal — a place where heritage recipes meet everyday moments, served warm and meant to be savoured slowly.
