Pizza Maru, the world’s largest Korean pizza chain, has levelled up! The most symbolic K-pizza brand with more than 620 stores across Korea is launching its world’s first Pizza Maru Express here in Singapore at i12 Katong (#01-20)! And with its opening, diners can now enjoy Korean-inspired Neapolitan Pizzas, now baked to order in just 150 seconds as well as freshly fried Chicken – the perfect grab for busy Singaporeans and on-the-go meals that fulfills the brand’s catchy slogan: Freshly Made! Everytime Every Bite!
Priced from just $10.90, they feature a thinner and crispier crust than the usual pies at main outlet Pizza Maru; and are made with Pizza Maru’s patented Green Tea Well-being Dough that’s slow-proofed for more than 24 hours at a low temperature of just 1-3 degrees Celsius for better flavour and texture.
Pizzas Fresh from the Oven
Pizza Maru Express makes pizzas like no other quick-serve dining outlet. Here, the focus is on Neapolitan-style pizzas – thin-crust round pies with a soft dough and high edges – brimming with Korean toppings such as Kimchi and Buldak Chicken.
But it’s not just a flash in the pan. Forming each 9-inch pizza base is a special patented Green Tea Well-being Dough, made through ripening and fermenting a healthy and fibre-packed nutritious blend of green tea, oats, barley, corn, chlorella, rye, sunflower seeds, wheat, flaxseeds, black rice, sorghum and foxtail millet. The dough is proofed for more than 24 hours at a low temperature of 1-3 degrees Celsius, giving it ample time to develop for the best possible quality and taste. The result is a complex flavour, a better crumb and typically easier to digest.
For diners to have the best experience, each pizza is also baked fresh to order – in and out of the oven in just 150 seconds flat! This speedy finale crisps up the dough, forming delicious blisters yet the short time also ensures that nothing gets burnt. The result is chewy, crispy, packed with goodness, the perfect fusion of Italian-Korean innovation.
Delicious Dozen
A total of 12 pizzas feature on Pizza Maru Express’ menu, priced from a wallet-friendly $10.90 to $14.90. These include 5 outlet-exclusives and signature favourites, catering to meat-lovers and even those on a vegetarian diet.
The first of five outlet-exclusive flavours begins with the spicy Kimchi Buldak Chicken ($13.90), featuring the heat of buldak chicken, sliced kimchi and Pizza Maru’s special kimchi mustard sauce. Another kimchi delight that will satisfy is the bold and unforgettable Kimchi Beef Bulgogi ($14.90), slathered with Pizza Maru’s special homemade kimchi mustard sauce, and generously topped with sweet-savoury beef bulgogi, mushrooms, onions & sliced kimchi.
Continue the fiery fiesta with Spicy Pepperoni ($14.90), a pepperoni creation that fans the flames with green chilli, chilli flakes, and a touch of sweet honey, all layered over melty cheese. Diners can choose between chicken or beef pepperoni. Designed for all palates, the Buldak Chicken Salsa ($13.90) trades heat for balanced flavour, combining tender chicken with a mild-spicy salsa and a light, savoury sauce.
Rounding out the outlet exclusives, the Sweet Potato Cream Cheese ($14.90) shines the spotlight on goguma or sweet potatoes, in an unlikely marriage with cream cheese – a combination that somehow works so well, for comfort in every bite.
Completing the line-up are Triple Cheese ($10.90, vegetarian), Pepperoni ($13.90, choose either beef or chicken), the classic Margherita ($12.90, vegetarian), chicken ham-topped Hawaiian ($12.90), Beef Bulgogi ($13.90), the smoky and creamy Maru Chicken ($13.90), and the Garlicky BBQ Chicken ($13.90) that will drive vampires away this spooky Halloween season.
A Wingin’ Combination
Joining Pizza Maru Express’ mouthwatering pizzas are of course Korean fried chicken. These, too, are priced from an affordable $8.90 to $10.90, but promise enjoyment that’s far, far more! All 12 chicken dishes are boneless, both family-friendly and extremely convenient to eat.
Don’t get in a flap now, for there are a total of 5 outlet exclusives to try. Bring your friends and family to sample them all!
Highest in the pecking order is the fiery Korean classic Buldak ($9.90 for 6pcs), for unmatched addictive heat! The fried chicken pieces are coated in this tongue-tingling sauce containing gochugaru (chili powder) and gochujang (chili paste).
Next, go for the Kimchi ($10.90 for 6pcs), the crispy chicken loaded with fresh kimchi for a bold and piquant Korean flavour, then refresh your palate with the light and zesty Yuzu Mayo ($9.90 for 6pcs). For cheese lovers, there’s the Garlic Cheese ($9.90 for 6pcs) where the crispy chicken is tossed in a moreish garlic and cheese sauce, or go for the pleasantly tart yet smoky creation is BBQ Mustard ($10.50 for 6pcs).
Not forgetting all-time favourite, Honey Butter ($10.50 for 6pcs). This is the ultimate sweet meets savoury, where the crispy chicken chunks are coated in rich honey butter goodness.
Other boneless Korean fried chicken creations to cluck about include the classic Soy Garlic ($8.90 for 6pcs), the sweet-spicy-sticky Korean glaze of Garlic Gangjeong ($9.50 for 6pcs), Honey Garlic ($8.90 for 6pcs), and last but not least, the rich and indulgent Onion Tartar ($9.50 for 6pcs). Another creamy, tangy and addictive Maru Sweet Ranch ($9.50 for 6pcs). A familiar offering is Nacho Cheese Salsa ($10.90 for 6pcs), reminiscent of a similar Pizza Maru menu item.
