Beloved Hong Kong cha chaan teng Mon Kee Café is making its Singapore debut this July with a stall at The Food Place in Raffles City Shopping Centre. Known for its elevated take on cha chaan teng classics, Mon Kee made waves in Hong Kong with unique offerings like silky Japanese-style scrambled eggs over char siew rice and a quirky sandwich filled with corned beef, peanut butter, eggs, and lettuce. The Singapore outpost won’t be a standalone café like its Hong Kong counterparts, but it will bring the same signature dishes to local fans via a freshly revamped food court concept.
Mon Kee first opened in 2016 in Wan Chai, where it quickly became a hit with the office crowd. Within nine months, a second outlet launched in Quarry Bay, and today, the brand has grown to four locations across Hong Kong. Co-founded by Derek Choi, the café’s name is a playful homage to traditional Hong Kong shopfront names and a cheeky pun on “monkey”—a reference to the Chinese zodiac sign shared by its founding team.
The arrival of Mon Kee is part of a broader refresh at The Food Place by Food Republic, which now features a warmer, greenery-filled interior and a new roster of notable brands. Alongside Mon Kee, visitors can also look forward to Ju Xing Fish—the first express concept from Ju Xing Home, a Michelin Bib Gourmand-awarded favourite from Hong Kong. With its cult following and inventive menu, Mon Kee is set to add a dash of Hong Kong flavour and charm to Singapore’s bustling dining scene.
