The newly relaunched Deadfall Cantina is now home to 72 agave spirits and ‘Mexi-porean’ dishes. Barbary Coast is a well-known multi-concept venue, featuring the rustic Deadfall and the opulent Ballroom. Recently revamped, these concepts now operate as standalone venues with their own menus: Barbary Coast upstairs and Deadfall Cantina downstairs. The refreshed Deadfall Cantina pays homage to Mexico, offering a menu that avoids kitschy decor in favor of an atmosphere reminiscent of Oaxaca’s vibrant Day of the Dead celebrations.
Agave takes center stage here, with Deadfall boasting the city’s largest collection of agave spirits, evenly divided between mezcal and tequila, plus a few varieties of raicilla. The cocktail menu includes playful margaritas, such as the frozen watermelon and the Horchata-rita, a twist on the traditional Mexican horchata made from rice, cinnamon, and almond milk. Other intriguing options include the Pasilla Mole Negroni, which adds a hint of spice from pasilla chile, and a creamy buttery paloma, featuring beurre noisette (browned butter) for a unique mouthfeel.
