Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) is undergoing a $6.8 billion transformation to refresh its offerings and maintain its competitiveness in global tourism. The project includes a waterfront lifestyle complex featuring an 88m-tall experiential “mountain trail,” two new hotels with 700 rooms, and an iconic light sculpture designed by Heatherwick Studio. The expansion will increase RWS’s footprint by 50%, adding over 164,000 sq m of new gross floor area.
The first phase of the expansion, focused on non-gaming attractions, began in 2022. Upcoming highlights include the Harry Potter: Visions Of Magic interactive art experience (opening Nov 22), Minion Land at Universal Studios Singapore (early 2025), and the expanded Singapore Oceanarium, three times larger than the S.E.A. Aquarium, featuring a deep ocean exhibit and a research center.
Sustainability is a cornerstone of the development, with low-carbon concrete expected to reduce emissions by 29,500 tonnes. The project aims to achieve the Green Mark Platinum certification, reflecting RWS’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.
The upgrade aligns with Singapore’s broader strategy to remain a leading MICE and leisure destination. Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is also enhancing its offerings, with a $2.3 billion reinvestment program including refurbished rooms, upgraded dining, and wellness facilities.
Singapore’s tourism sector is rebounding strongly, with 13.9 million international visitors as of October 2024, edging toward the 15-16.5 million target for the year. If tourism receipts reach the projected $29 billion upper limit, it will set a new record, showcasing the success of ongoing efforts to rejuvenate the nation’s attractions.
