Singapore’s fifth desalination plant, Jurong Island Desalination Plant has officially opened after 2 years of delays and marks another milestone in Singapore’s water sustainability journey.
It is equipped to produce up to 55 Olympic-sized swimming pools of potable water per day, adding another weather-resilient source to Singapore’s water supply. Jurong Island Desalination Plant is also co-located with Tuas Power’s Tembusu Multi-Utilities Complex (TMUC), allowing it to leverage TMUC’s existing infrastructure for seawater intake and increase its energy efficiency. With Singapore’s water demand expected to almost double by 2060, it is crucial for us to continue finding sustainable and resilient ways of producing water.
