Construction of the new 30-storey Goh Keng Swee Centre for Education (GKSCE) will begin in 2025 in Buona Vista, adjacent to the current Ministry of Education (MOE) building on North Buona Vista Drive. This new building will allow MOE to consolidate staff from its Balestier, Grange Road, and Ghim Moh headquarters into a single location, freeing up land in other parts of Singapore for alternative uses.
The GKSCE will house approximately 2,000 MOE employees, along with the School Cluster Centre, the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language, and the Academy of Singapore Teachers. In addition to office spaces, the building will include training facilities for in-service teachers and the MOE Heritage Centre, currently located at MOE’s Balestier office. This heritage centre will honor the legacy of Dr. Goh Keng Swee, who served as Singapore’s Minister for Education twice between 1979 and 1984, by showcasing the history of the country’s education system and his contributions.
Set to be operational in 2029, the GKSCE will span about 5,000 sq m, with a projected gross floor area of 65,000 sq m. It will incorporate sustainable features, including solar panels and a district cooling system. Originally announced by then-Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong during the 2010 National Day Rally, the ministry shared that plans for the vacated sites are still under consideration, with further details to be announced later.
