Artisan Green is set to expand with a larger farm by 2025. The new 2-hectare site in Sungei Tengah, roughly the size of three football fields, will feature a 5,500 sq m indoor production area and a 1.5-hectare outdoor area. This marks a significant upgrade from its current 300 sq m indoor farm in Kallang. The new facility will continue growing its signature baby spinach along with other leafy greens and microgreens, while introducing a farm-to-table dining concept aimed at educating consumers on the benefits of locally grown produce, according to chief executive Ray Poh.
Despite being one of the few success stories in a challenging industry, Artisan Green’s journey has been far from easy. The company faced difficulties in securing agricultural land, having failed in a 2020 bid and being unable to lease commercial plots. However, in April 2024, Artisan Green finally secured a plot in Sungei Tengah, which has proven to be a fortunate turn of events. During this time, Mr. Poh focused on refining the farm’s production by honing in on plant science to optimize yields from their small Kallang facility.
The new farm will significantly increase Artisan Green’s production capacity, starting with 30 tonnes of vegetables per month in the initial phase, compared to just one tonne currently. By 2026, the farm plans to scale up to 90 tonnes per month. According to Mr. Poh, success lies in understanding plant science—balancing nutrients, water, and light at different stages of growth—especially when expanding operations, as challenges tend to grow exponentially alongside scale.
