Capella Singapore is delighted to announce the opening of its latest bar concept, The Pineapple Room. Situated above the hotel lobby, The Pineapple Room finds its home in the heart of the resort’s iconic heritage Tanah Merah building. The timeless haven honours Sentosa Island’s little-known past as a flourishing pineapple plantation in the 1880s, weaving subtle nods to the tropical fruit symbolic of hospitality into its classic and contemporary cocktails and elegant interiors.
The journey to The Pineapple Room commences from the reimagined hotel lobby with its welcoming central seating that imbues the space with renewed warmth and sophistication. Warm, neutral-toned wallpaper featuring flora and fauna, and photographs of Singapore from the 1940s to 1960s, taken by renowned architectural photographer and heritage conservationist Marjorie Doggett, set the scene for the inviting interiors of The Living Room and The Pineapple Room as guests ascend the staircase.
Design: A Storied Interior
By day, The Living Room presents a cosy retreat, where hotel guests can enjoy light refreshments and beverages, with afternoon tea available between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. By dusk, it gracefully transforms into The Pineapple Room, an elevated bar experience designed to inspire authentic connections and meaningful conversations.
The Pineapple Room pays homage to The Living Room, once an intimate social space for The Royal Artillery and their loved ones to enjoy tea parties and celebrations. Bringing to lite the allure of the bygone era are rattan chairs, alongside vintage orb lightings that cast a soft, nostalgic glow. The centrepiece, a rich dark-teak bar crowned with a Carrara marble top and matching backsplash, exudes regal opulence, standing beautifully in contrast to pristine walls. The interior design is elegantly modern, thoughtfully incorporating elements such as vintage maps that celebrate Singapore’s storied history and commissioned paintings of botanicals and pineapples by local artists.
The Pineapple Room is flanked by two al fresco terraces, providing a serene setting for leisurely moments. Guests can lounge on rattan chairs or connect with each other over a lively, recreational game of pool or foosball while enjoying the soothing vistas of the lush greenery that envelops Capella Singapore. This tranquil backdrop perfectly complements the bar’s inviting atmosphere.
Cocktails & Chef’s List
The Pineapple Room presents a curated selection of cocktails that embodies the welcoming spirit that defines Capella and the vibrant pulse of our lion city. Each cocktail, inspired by Singapore’s rich tapestry of cultures, is crafted with ingredients championing the garden city’s delicate botanicals and local fruits.
Triple P is The Pineapple Room’s signature cocktail. Tropical pineapple forms the base, which is complemented by reposado, agave nectar, lime, orange bitters and a touch of chilli salt. Refreshing to the palate, this cocktail is a salute to Sentosa Island’s history when it used to be a prolific pineapple plantation in the 1840s. Scarlet Rouge, a delicious interpretation of the iconic Mary Pickford cocktail, with a hint of warm notes, incorporates dark rum, cherry liqueur, pineapple, pomegranate, bitters and edible gold.
Culinary highlights such as the Singapore chilli crab pie tee, pan-fried Hokkaido scallops with ginger flower-pineapple sauce, sakura chicken satay and gruyère cheese straws, will complement your pre-dinner aperitif or nightcap.
Meaningful Connections & Conversations
For centuries, pineapple has remained a timeless emblem of hospitality and warmth, evoking friendship, celebrations, and the sharing of joy. Inspired by this symbolism, The Pineapple Room was conceived to be a welcoming space in which genuine connections, meaningful conversations and convivial memories are created. A bespoke card game, Room for Conversation, was developed with the intention for guests to engage and learn about one another through meaningful and fun interaction.
