Newly opened along Joo Chiat Place, The Hainan Immigrants blends nostalgic charm with Singapore’s rich cultural heritage. Housed in a shophouse that once hosted the Louis Vuitton x Murakami pop-up, this café stands out not just for its vintage setting but also for its immersive heritage gallery that recalls the brand’s roots as 1932 Story at Bukit Timah Railway Station. Its interiors are designed to resemble a traditional Chinese medicine hall, filled with vintage furniture, retro salon setups, ticking clocks, and even old-school display cabinets behind the counter — every corner tells a story.
The menu is equally eclectic, featuring Small Bites, Breakfast, Pasta, Local, Western, Burgers, and Dessert, with drinks ranging from espresso-based coffees to in-house concoctions. Highlights include the Signature Chili Crab Pasta, topped with slipper lobster, mussels, and served with deep-fried mantou, evoking the flavours of Singapore’s beloved chili crab dish. Another favourite is the Kaya Toast Bun — a trio of mini UFO buns with caramel-hued Hainanese kaya and chilled butter, toasted for that perfect crunch.
Vibes are everything here — it’s a throwback to themed cafés of the past, far from today’s minimalist trends. With its immersive décor, old-world charm, and unique food offerings, The Hainan Immigrants adds a fresh yet nostalgic presence to the Joo Chiat neighbourhood.
