After making waves earlier this year with its value-for-money sashimi and handrolls at Funan, Sushi Zushi has expanded west with a new outlet at Westgate. The concept remains the same — an omakase-inspired dining experience where chefs prepare dishes right before your eyes, but with the ease of a digital a la carte ordering system and at wallet-friendly prices. The Jurong East branch also boasts a larger dining area, drawing even more diners eager for quality sushi without the hefty bill.
A key highlight of the Westgate location is its genshi yaki charcoal grill, a traditional Japanese method where seafood is skewered and grilled vertically over binchotan charcoal. Stationed prominently in the restaurant, the grill serves freshly charred seasonal items such as miso cod, sea bream, saba fish, tiger prawns, and scallops. Alongside the expanded food menu, the outlet also introduces a wider sake list curated with the help of its sister brand, Omu Nomu Craft Sake & Raw Bar, as well as Japanese-inspired cocktails like the grapefruit highball and Cherry Blossom.
Despite the new additions, Sushi Zushi Westgate stays true to the crowd favourites that made its Funan debut so popular. Its signature shari, made with Hokkaido Sansanmaru rice hand-beaten twice daily and mixed with red vinegar, is still the star. Prices remain accessible, starting from just $2 for two pieces of gunkan and nigiri. Plus, diners can look forward to extended late-night hours on Fridays, Saturdays, and the eve of public holidays, with the sushi bar keeping the drinks and snacks flowing until 11pm.
