Starbucks Singapore has unveiled its first-ever outlet housed within a heritage shophouse, located at 37 Smith Street near Chinatown MRT. The two-storey café pays tribute to the area’s rich cultural history through thoughtful design elements, including traditional Chinese signages crafted by local calligraphy and woodcarving masters. Visitors are welcomed by a giant Merlion Bearista plush and shelves of store-exclusive merchandise, some designed in collaboration with JunleFont, a local calligraphy artist with autism. These unique items, alongside the heritage-themed decor, make the outlet both a coffee destination and a cultural experience.
Inside, customers can enjoy handcrafted beverages and relax across two levels of seating. The ground floor includes a compact café area, while the upper floor offers a variety of seating configurations, including communal tables and booth seats inspired by vintage HDB void deck benches. Singaporean artist Tiffany Lovage’s coffee-themed murals adorn the walls, and a striking outdoor mural blends historical Chinatown scenes with whimsical coffee motifs. This artistic atmosphere enhances the immersive experience for patrons beyond the usual Starbucks visit.
The Smith Street outlet also features menu exclusives inspired by local flavours. These include the black sesame oatmilk coffee frappuccino with soy pudding and the yuan yang coffee frappuccino with hojicha and chocolate chips. Complementing the drinks is a food selection created with heritage confectionery brand Old Seng Choong, featuring items like XL chicken char siew puffs and lychee swiss rolls. Open daily from 7:30am, with extended hours on weekends, the outlet invites both locals and tourists to enjoy a distinctive blend of coffee culture and Singaporean heritage.
