SHAO 烧 has opened a new outpost along Rangoon Road, bringing its modern interpretation of Teochew cuisine to a refreshed, contemporary setting. Rooted in the meaning of its name — 「烧」signifying fire, gathering, and the art of roasting — SHAO positions itself as a place for shared meals centred on barbecue and roast-driven flavours. The space reflects this philosophy, blending traditional Teochew references with modern design, anchored by a striking mural that reimagines a bustling Teochew street against familiar Singapore landmarks.
The menu highlights Teochew classics with a focus on seafood and charcoal-grilled dishes. Raw marinated seafood remains a key draw, alongside favourites such as seafood pao fan, grilled meats, and braised specialties. Dishes are handled with restraint, allowing freshness and technique to take precedence rather than heavy seasoning, staying true to Teochew culinary principles.
Standout offerings include the marinated raw crab, prized for its natural sweetness and clean finish, as well as smoky grilled roe crab that balances richness with savoury depth. Braised duck and combination platters deliver familiar comfort, while items like pan-seared cuttlefish and crispy whole fried fish add textural contrast. At Rangoon Road, SHAO continues its approach of honouring tradition while presenting Teochew cuisine in a polished, contemporary light.
