Known for its award-winning and record-breaking egg tarts, full-bodied Nanyang-style coffee, and authentic Nanyang cuisine, the popular Malaysian coffee shop chain Oriental Kopi is set to open its highly anticipated Singapore outlet at Bugis Junction this month.
Oriental Kopi’s expansion into Singapore marks its first overseas venture. Recently featured on the New York Times Square Billboard, the Malaysian brand has partnered with Paradise Group, a household name in the Singapore culinary scene with more than 150 establishments worldwide, to bring its signature flavours to Singapore. This collaboration underscores Paradise Group’s commitment to preserving and celebrating culinary traditions.
The 100-seater Restaurant Serves Oriental Kopi’s Best-selling Signatures
Oriental Kopi fans who previously made the trip over the causeway just to get a taste of its food will be familiar with these must-order signatures.
Order the eponymous Oriental Kopi (from $2 for hot/small), a full-bodied Nanyang-style brew made from a “golden ratio” of top-quality Arabica, Robusta and Liberica beans. Variants include Kopi Butter ($2.50, hot), that invokes a rich, caramelised flavour, the mellow White Coffee (from $2.20 for hot/small); or enjoy the aromatic beverage ice-cold (from $3.30).
A sight to behold at Oriental Kopi outlets are the award-winning Signature Egg Tarts ($5.20 for 2pcs, $15.60 for 6pcs (FREE 1)), constantly being turned out hot and fresh from the oven only to be snapped up immediately by long lines of both dine-in and takeaway customers. These are creamy and crispy with every bite, thanks to its lush egg custard and flaky exterior. In fact, these handmade confections with premium French butter are lauded in the Malaysia Book of Records for “Thickest Egg Tart” and “Most Number of Egg Tarts Sold”. The craggy-top yet fluffy Oriental Polo Buns ($4.60), elevated with a slab of icy-cold butter and condensed milk, have also earned a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records for “Most Number of Polo Buns Sold”.
Other traditional delights to savour include fragrant Oriental Signature Nasi Lemak ($9.50) and Oriental Signature Mee Siam ($10.50) topped with perfectly poached soft boiled eggs. Indulge also in Malaysia’s local street food such as Penang Char Kuey Teow ($7.50), nostalgic Oriental Prawn Meehoon Mee ($9.50), and Oriental Chicken Hor Fun ($9.50).
To satisfy your sweet tooth, order ABC ($4.50), Malaysia’s name for ice kacang. Fragrant mango desserts (from $5.50) are also on the menu, as well as Oriental Tong Shui, comforting sweet soups such as Snow Swallow with Peach Gum Dessert ($4.50, available hot and cold). With the Winter Solstice occurring on 21 December this year, get your tang yuan fix at Oriental Kopi – one unique rendition is Tang Yuan in Black Glutinous Rice ($3.80, hot).
Need to restock your stash of Oriental Kopi food souvenirs? The Bugis Junction outlet carries these as well, so you can rest assured that your Traditional Pan Mee (from $1.80 per packet, buy any 4 and get 1 free Original Pan Mee), brew-at-home sachets of aromatic instant white coffee (from $6.50 per box), and Oriental Kopi’s handcrafted pineapple tarts ($13.50/box Classic, $15.50/box Cheese) will never be too far away.
