Hand rolls, but not as you know them. Onori, a new hand roll specialty shop, has just opened at Far East Square, bringing freshly made-to-order rolls that pair quality ingredients with crisp nori and bold flavours for the CBD crowd.
The name Onori carries a deeply personal story. One of the founders, Nicholas, grew up enjoying Japanese cuisine casually, but it was through his wife, Risa O, that he developed a true appreciation for the culture behind it.
Through her family traditions and everyday dining habits, he came to understand the beauty of Japanese food: the quiet elegance of seasonality, harmony in flavours, and the simple pleasure of enjoying ingredients at their freshest.
Her surname, combined with ‘nori’, the crisp seaweed that defines every hand roll, became the inspiration for the name Onori. Beyond wordplay, the name stands as a symbol of heritage ,family bonds ,and a lasting passion for Japanese cuisine. It honours tradition while reimagining it through a contemporary lens.

Onori’s open-style hand rolls use Akita Komachi rice seasoned with Akazu vinegar and savoury Dashi, crisp individually wrapped nori, and premium proteins. Made fresh at the counter, each roll is intended to be eaten immediately, capturing the ideal contrast of textures and the clean, expressive flavours that define Onori.
Diners can look forward to a total of 12 hand roll variations, with additional creations introduced during seasonal periods. From comforting classics like Salmon and Ebi Fry to premium choices such as A5 Wagyu and Gindara, there is something for every palate.
Launching in the heart of Singapore’s busiest lifestyle hub, Onori is conveniently located near MRTs and offices, making it the perfect stop for a quick lunch pick-up, post-work cravings, or a casual meal with friends.
To complete the experience, Onori also offers craft matcha latte, available at $4.90 when added to any hand roll set. With its clean, balanced flavour ,the latte provides a satisfying finish to the set.
