LUNA, the popular Singaporean homegrown patisserie opens a brand-new café concept named Lucine by LUNA at 111 Somerset this August. While retaining its crowd-favourites and signature sweet treats, Lucine by LUNA features a new menu of hot savoury dishes not found at the original LUNA along Amoy.
Lucine translates to “moon” or “light”, and is a symbol of brightness and illumination. The design of the café is befitting of its name with floor-to-ceiling windows inviting sunlight through the space. Eyes will be quickly drawn to the artistic centerpiece of life-like blush-pink paper flowers and botanicals in the café, further reminding one of a glasshouse. The delicate paper garden is brought magically to life by fellow Singaporean Pei Li, the founder of PeiPer Arts School and a well-known paper artist. Furnishing of the rest of the café is kept fairly simple, with monochromatic marble tables accented by hanging lights.
Unlike its sister patisserie LUNA, Lucine offers an outlet-exclusive hot food menu of toasted sandwiches, salads and light bites.
Sandwiches prepared with toasted sourdough and brioche are the main stars here, forming up bulk of the menu. A variety of different toasty fillings await, such as Grilled Cheese ($12.90) with a triple threat of mozzarella, cheddar, parmesan; Tofu Katsu ($10.90) with panko-crusted tofu cutlet and spicy sriracha mayo; Spam & Cheese ($10.90) with thick-cut chicken spam and cheddar; and Hamburg Steak ($13.90) with juicy seared minced beef and onions. Each sandwich is served with a side of mixed greens salad, and there is an option to add $2 for tater tots.
For the peckish, there’s also a customisable All Day Breakfast (from $8.90) of sunshine-yellow soft-scrambled eggs, served with toasted sourdough and a side of fresh salad greens. For extra sustenance, add-ons such as tater tots, sauteed garlic mushrooms, creamed spinach and chicken sausage are available from $2 onwards.
For a light and wholesome lunch, tuck into the fresh salads. The healthy protein-packed Sous Vide Chicken Salad ($12.90) features herb-rubbed chicken breast, hard-boiled egg, mixed lettuce, spinach, cherry tomatoes, onions, topped with creamy homemade Italian herb dressing. Veggie lovers will delight in the Eggplant Salad ($12.90) of panko-crusted eggplant fritters, mixed lettuce, baby spinach, hard-boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, onions, topped with roasted red capsicum dressing. Supplement either salad with a creamy homemade Mushroom Soup ($8.90), made with four types of shrooms – shiitake, oyster, shimeji and porcini – and served with a slice of toasted sourdough.
Get your coffee and dessert fix after meal with LUNA’s latest collection of sweet entremets (from $8.50) including Blossom, Citrus Tart, Classic Cheesecake, Mint Chocolate, Pistachio Roulade and a refreshed Tofu. Unique coffee options are aplenty with flavoured lattes such as Tiramisu, Peanut Butter and Black Sesame at $8.50 each.
