After a successful opening and soft-launch earlier this year, FiftyFive Coffee Bar is excited to launch a cocktail menu on 12 May 2023 in collaboration with a local artisanal cocktail consultant, boasting seven flavour-forward and expertly-crafted tipples coupled with a new seafood-centric menu specially curated in line with a sea theme arising from ‘Boats’ and is prominently featured throughout the café by way of carefully curated installations, artwork, furnishings and playlists.
This transformation signifies an evolution of FiftyFive Coffee Bar into a stylish and comfortable space that embraces two cultures – coffee and cocktails – and a blank canvas for creative collaborations, exhibitions, events, performances, poetry readings and so on.
Located within a heritage shophouse and spanning two floors, the coffee bar is a minimalist space that doubles as a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. In keeping with the sea theme, distinctive landscaping and soundscaping elements such as cascading fishnets, sandboxes, driftwood, projection mappings and a curated playlist are used. Upon entering the space, one is greeted by natural light and furniture that evokes a sense of home, while a short walk up the staircase leads one to a cosy loft that contains customised modular furniture reminiscent of boats. The furnishings boast an eclectic spin, and have been chosen for a seamless transition from day to night, by way of mirrored tables, lounge chairs, quirky table lamps and touches of leather.
In addition, for Nick, the creative process behind developing unique flavours is also a form of art. In that sense, FiftyFive Coffee Bar is a space not only for visual artists, but also chefs, baristas and mixologists to showcase different flavours in their respective forms.
Broadly inspired by the seven seas – a term used in the arts and popular culture that refers to the seas of the world – and given an interpretative twist, the cocktails here take their cue from these oceanic bodies: Caribbean, Atlantic, Indian, Mediterranean, Pacific, Arctic and the Gulf of Mexico, using unusual ingredients which result in flavour-forward profiles. The cocktails will be available from 7pm onwards, Fridays to Sundays only.
