Sakanoue, the renowned Japanese shaved ice café, made waves in Singapore with its pop-ups in 2023 and 2024, drawing long queues that often lasted over an hour. Now, it is making a permanent return, partnering with Drips Bakery Café to bring its signature kakigori to the Tiong Bahru outlet. Known for its premium Kuramoto Ice from Kanazawa, which melts more slowly to maintain the dessert’s delicate, snow-like texture, Sakanoue’s kakigori has captivated fans with its unique flavors and meticulous craftsmanship.
The Singapore menu will feature six confirmed flavors, including the best-selling strawberry shortcake, berry cute panda, pistachio chocolate, lemon mascarpone, blazing fire cheese, and a Singapore-exclusive blackforest kakigori inspired by Drips Bakery Café’s signature blackforest cake. Some variations even come with charming animal-themed designs, adding to their visual appeal. As part of the collaboration, Drips Bakery Café will also introduce two new pastries: a black sesame mochi danish filled with soft, chewy homemade mochi and a savory okonomiyaki danish, offering a creative twist on the classic Japanese pancake.
With its first permanent overseas branch opening in Kuala Lumpur, Sakanoue’s decision to set up shop in Singapore further cements its popularity among dessert lovers. Its original Tokyo store sees locals lining up for over an hour, even in winter—a testament to its appeal. Now, Singaporeans can enjoy Sakanoue’s artisanal kakigori alongside Drips Bakery Café’s signature bakes and brunch offerings, all in one location. The highly anticipated opening is set for April 4, 2025.
