Coucou, the Swiss Restaurant tucked among the thriving culinary neighbourhood of Duxton Hill, is thrilled to unveil its refreshed new look and menu in time for the cosy year-end season.
Exuding the ambiance of a snug alpine cabin in the Swiss mountains, where guests can gather and enjoy authentic flavours of Switzerland, Coucou’s revitalised interior beckons all into a whimsically inviting atmosphere. Staying true to Swiss culinary traditions, Coucou has elevated its offerings by adding several new dishes to its repertoire, making it perfect for sharing with family and friends.
A Fresh Look to Welcome the Season
Swapping out previously cool grey stone walls with warmer, vibrant red tones, the venue embodies the authentic spirit of Swiss celebration and conviviality. Guests are transported to the mountains of Zermatt, with large playful prints decorating the walls depicting the breathtaking ascent and descent of their slopes via cable car and gondola. Introducing vivid and colourful features, the prints bring Swiss culture to life alongside an eclectic collection of cuckoo clocks that gently chime beneath a stunning handcrafted wooden chandelier. This new addition arches into dramatic curves that mimic the bold antlers of the stag red deer that run carefree, in the Swiss Alps.
The venue also showcases a refreshed maroon and white upholstery, embodying the Swiss spirit and colours. Paying homage to Scherenschnitte, a cherished traditional paper-cutting pastime for families, the cushioned backrests depict the stories that mark everyday life in Switzerland, such as Poyas, the ritual of herding the cows up to the mountains to graze and back.
At the al-fresco section of the restaurant, stories of Swiss farming and agriculture are etched onto two artisanal black metal frames, sourced and manufactured from Monthey, in the canton of Valais, Southern Switzerland.
Here, each frame celebrates iconic moments in Switzerland, from quintessential Alpine cable cars, to the world-famous Matterhorn, and Swiss wildlife such as bears, foxes and deer. By night, these glowing metal frames warmly tell of the rich history and culture of Switzerland. Coucou’s refreshed interiors offer intimate glimpses of true Swiss culture, creating comfort, ambience and context for guests as they connect with each other over sharing-style hearty Swiss dishes.
Sharing the Taste of Tradition
Spearheading the menu’s refresh is the Apéro A Partager Entre Amis, a selection of shareable plates. Among these is Notre Terrine de Foie Gras de Canard, a duck foie gras terrine served with green apple and farmer bread, balancing richness with a pop of freshness. Indulge in the Croque-Monsieur de Mon Enfance (Croque-Monsieur from my Childhood), made with Coucou’s jaffle, raclette cheese and ham and inspired by Yves Schmid, the Co-founder of Coucou, and his fond childhood memories in Switzerland. Guests can opt for the new Plats De Resistance, the Tartare de Beouf Préparé à Table: succulent beef morsels delicately enveloped in Swiss Sbrinz Cheese and Rucula salad served at the tableside.
Coucou’s signature favourite, Malakoff Coucou, continues to delight customers as the mainstay on the menu. The golden dome of deep-fried Gruyère cheese is a Swiss speciality, unique to only three villages in the “La Côte” region. Its crunchy exterior gives way to a soft, warm, molten centre, making it an indulgent dish not to be missed. This treat was enjoyed by Swiss mercenaries who fought during the Crimean War, who traditionally paired the Malakoff with local white wine—a tradition Coucou is proud to continue.
With its refreshed interiors and lovingly crafted dishes, Coucou’s warm and welcoming atmosphere makes it a perfect location to celebrate the festive season with friends and loved ones. Whether you’re looking to indulge in Swiss classics, or try something new, Coucou promises to deliver a memorable dining experience and the very best of Swiss hospitality.
