From seafood to sake bombs: Catfish Restaurant’s playful transformation to an exciting Izakaya Concept! Their previous seafood-centric menu stays true to its core with a major twist in making it izakaya-style.
Their head chef, Chef Jared, has worked in some of the best kitchens in the world, including Michelin-starred restaurants in Singapore such as Joël Robuchon Restaurant, Cure Nua and Meta. However, it was his time spent in Kyoto, Japan at 3 Michelin starred Gion Sasaki Restaurant that proved to be a turning point in his career. This experience led him to focus on developing food with Japanese and Asian flavors. He’s bringing his love for Japanese and Asian flavors to the forefront with their new menu, which combines his expertise in seafood with a new izakaya twist.
They’re thrilled to introduce some of their favourite dishes that are sure to delight your taste buds! First up, they have their grilled Hokkaido scallop, gojuchang butter, cured egg yolk. Inspired by BBQ seafood by the sea in Busan and eating raw sashimi with Chogochujang-based sauce, Chef Jared has created a delicious pairing that’s sweet, tangy, and has a hint of spiciness. Finish it off with caviar and cured egg yolk, and you’re in for a treat!
Their grilled Japanese wagyu striploin (A4) 200G, watercress salad and wasabi is a minimalist’s dream. Less is more when you have a good produce like their wagyu. They provide four condiments, including garlic chips, smoked Maldon salt, watercress salad, and wasabi, to let the flavour of the beef shine. It’s rich, buttery, and best served medium-rare to medium.
Lastly, we have something for cheese lovers – our grilled brie cheese, ume jam and sesame cracker. This savoury dessert is made with soft brie cheese, umami jam made of Japanese plum and umeboshi, and sesame crackers for a perfect crunch. It’s a unique take on a classic cheese platter that’s perfect for sharing.
They’re not just making food, they’re creating memories. From the moment you step into Catfish Izakaya, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported straight to Japan.
With Chef Andrew Walsh and Chef Jared’s love for Japanese-inspired food and their culinary experiences, Catfish Izakaya is the perfect place for an innovative dining experience. They believe that good food is best enjoyed with good company. That’s why they’re the perfect spot for both date nights and friend gatherings alike.
