A&W Restaurants, Inc., the iconic American fast food chain renowned for its burgers, draft root beer, and root beer floats, has just opened a new outlet at Anchorvale Village. Known as Allen & Wright Restaurants, A&W holds the distinction of being the oldest existing restaurant chain in the United States. The chain’s storied history began in 1919 when Roy W. Allen set up a roadside stand in Lodi, California, to serve a new thick and creamy drink, root beer, to honor returning World War I veterans.
In 1922, Allen partnered with his employee Frank Wright, and together they opened their first restaurant in Sacramento, California, in 1923. The company name, A&W, was derived from the initials of their last names—Allen and Wright. Over the years, A&W has become a household name in the United States, especially famous for its “frosty mugs,” where mugs are kept in a freezer and filled with A&W Root Beer just before being served.
The new A&W outlet at Anchorvale Village brings this classic American dining experience to the heartlands, allowing local residents to enjoy their favorite A&W treats closer to home. The menu features their beloved burgers and signature root beer floats, served in the iconic frosty mugs. With this new opening, fans of A&W can now relish the timeless flavors and nostalgia of this historic brand right in their neighborhood.
