Pioneers in the Singapore music industry Snakeweed Studios are thrilled to announce the opening of Tumbleweed Studios, an independent music rehearsal facility. Set in the very heart of Singapore’s iconic national performing arts centre, the Esplanade, this venture looks toward setting a new standard for rehearsal studios in Singapore while honouring the rich heritage of Snakeweed Studios.
Tumbleweed Studios features four acoustically treated rooms, equipped with top-tier equipment from leading music manufacturers such as Pearl, Zildjian, Aguilar, Ampeg, Marshall, Fender, and Roland. The 2000-square-foot facility offers 4 rooms with a range of sizes catering to various needs, from small groups to large ensembles, at competitive rates ranging from SGD 25 to 45 per hour.
Since its establishment in 2000, Snakeweed Studios has played a pivotal role in shaping the music scene in Singapore. Iconic Singaporean artists such as Electrico, Pug Jelly, and Ronin have graced its rooms, and today, Snakeweed Studios continues to be a hub for major icons of popular music. Owned and operated by Founder, Leonard Soosay and Managing Partner, Josh Wei, Snakeweed Studios boasts an impressive portfolio that includes local and overseas works by Gentle Bones, Kali Uchis, JJ Lin, Rachel Platten, Linying, Stray Kids, and The Sam Willows.
Leonard Soosay is arguably one of the most significant figures in Singapore’s music industry, responsible for over 500 domestic releases over the last 20 years. Internationally, he has worked on commissioned remixes for artists such as David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, and John Lennon.
Josh Wei, on the other hand, is responsible for producing some of the biggest pop records in Singapore, including Gentle Bones’ ‘I Wouldn’t Know Any Better Than You’, which has over 60 million streams collectively, making it one of the highest-streaming record by a domestic act (English) in the country’s history. He also worked with JYP’s Stray Kids on ‘Sunshine’, as part of the ‘Cle: Levanter’ album, which hit #1 on the iTunes Album Charts in 18 countries worldwide. In 2020, he worked on the soundtrack for Steven Spielberg’s ‘The Turning’, which included songs from Kali Uchis, Courtney Love, and MUNA. He also co-produced ‘Soldiers’ for Rachel Platten, released as a single and featured in a nationwide CBS primetime network promotional spot and American Idol’s 19th Season.
